Maths Entry Level 1
Functional Skills qualifications in mathematics focus on the development of effective and practical mathematical skills. There are three qualifications at Entry Level: Entry 1, Entry 2 and Entry 3.
These are ideal for young and mature learners wishing to develop practical, transferable skills in mathematics in order to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life. They have been created in response to employers’ perceptions that many learners are not achieving a sufficiently firm grounding in the basics.
These qualification are also suitable for those preparing to progress to a Functional Skills Maths qualification at Level 1.
Learners who achieve at Entry 1 will have mathematical abilities that range from the most elementary of achievement to beginning to make use of skills, knowledge or understanding that relate to the immediate environment.
Learners who achieve at Entry 2 will have skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out simple, familiar tasks with guidance.
Learners who achieve at Entry 3 will have mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out structured tasks in familiar contexts
The Functional Skills qualifications in Mathematics (at all Levels), assess only one component:
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for Entry Level 1, 2 or 3. All candidates will take an initial Skills Assessment and Diagnostic test (online or paper- based) to assess the appropriate level of entry.
Learners registered on these qualifications shouldn’t undertake another qualification at the same time with the same or a similar title, as duplication of learning may affect funding eligibility.

To be awarded the Functional Skills qualification in mathematics learners are required to successfully complete the mandatory component by achieving a task-based assignment.
